Biz Blogging SkypeCast Dec 8th

I'll be doing a SkypeCast with Problogwriters.com on Dec 8th at 10AM EST.

It's free, but you need to download Skype (also free and easy to setup).

An excerpt of the announcement:

Business blogging author Ted Demopoulos will head up the event, answering the questions of participants and generally giving the audience an idea of what business blogging is all about. If you’ve been on the fence as to the why and how of business blogging, here’s your chance to get real, practical answers from one of the web’s preeminent experts on business blogging.

In addition to the valuable answers being handed out at the event, there will be other prizes given to attendees. Ted is giving away a signed copy of his latest book, What No One Ever Tells You About Blogging and Podcasting. As well, advertising spots will be given away on the probloggers’ forum and on Sleepyblogger.com, a business blog written by Robyn Tippins (interviewed in the book).

There is no need to RSVP, but if you have questions that you would like answered in the chat, be sure to leave them in the blogger's forum at Problogwriters.com. Look under General Discussion => Blogging and Podcasting Questions.

Maine 2.0

I'll be speaking at Maine 2.0 in South Portland on December 6th. I know I have a lot of Maine area readers -- if you're at the conference please stop by and say hello.

Talk details below. Although maybe I'll pull a quick one and read lobster poetry instead :)

Security – Where we need to be in 10 years and how to get there.

Systems are becoming more complex, new targets keep appearing such as networked fax and copying machines, and the whole world seems to be going wireless including laptops, HVAC systems and automobiles. These all have security implications, and today your average hacker is more likely to be a for-profit career criminal than a socially maladjusted teenager. Also security is still often an afterthought despite years of experience this approach doesn't work and a myriad of new government regulations. Security has a long way to go and expecting "technology" to solve it is simply a dream! Ted outlines the challenges we face and how we can overcome them.

What's Your Conflict Resolution Style?

Reg Adkins has an interesting Conflict Management Quiz at Elemental Truths.

I just took it, and it says I equally try to avoid and harmonize. I think that's pretty accurate, although I'll bet my wife would disagree.

She's wrong, I'm right! Ohhh, sorry, wrong confrontational style :)

It's quick, easy, and interesting, and Reg is the expert.

If it isn't written, it isn't a plan

If it isn't written, it isn't a plan."
-Jim Cathcart

I might not have agreed when I was younger, but agree wholeheartedly now! Not sure if it's because I'm older and wiser, maybe my memory is slipping, or . . . ?

If I don't write it down, it's not a plan. It may still happen, but I wouldn't count on it.

Check out Jim Cathcart's The Chairperson's Planning Guide. It basically applies to all my planning and probably yours too.

The One Thing About Business

You can't live on past success!

Hear me and others discuss this at The Great Big Small Business Show

I'm not on every week, I've been simply too busy, but I listen everyweek. Becky McCray and Grasshopper New Media simply do a great job with a fantastic crew.

Like most podcasts, I listen in the car during otherwise downtime (I'm a Luddite -- I burn it to CD or sometimes record to 8 track tape and listen in the car).

Kiss Theory Goodbye hits Amazon #1

I recently reviewed Bob Prosen's Kiss Theory Goodbye very favorably - hey, it's a great book!

Bob emailed me introducing himself and emailed me a copy, hence the review. He was reading my Blogging for Business book, and being a nice guy, as well of course as promoting his book.

Well, he IS a nice guy, it's a great book, and he's a #1 Best Selling Amazon Author now!

In contrast, Blogging for Business is doing VERY well, but has never hit more than 2000 on the Amazon list. 2000 is great, 10K average is great, but #1 is fantastic and Bob and Kiss Theory Goodbye deserve it!

My short audio interview on specific benefits of blogging and podcasting

"Blogging is a difficult concept for some people to embrace. Often, the best way to learn how you might be able to use a blog for your own benefit is to hear how others use it," writes Robert French as an introduction to our short podcast where we discuss some specific benefits people receive from blogging and podcasting based on a few hundred interviews I recently completed.

The podcast is on the Marcom Blog with some great comments from his students and also on his infOpinions? blog.

Although technically Robert is interviewing me, he's certainly extremely knowledgeable himself, and appears as a voice of reason in my book in a section titled "It's All An Experiment."

Hey, my book is out, and I'm guest blogging

What No One Ever Tells you About Blogging and Podcasting is "officially" out and in most bookstores by now, as well as shipping from the major online booksellers! (click on the picture to the right to order)

To celebrate, I'm Guest Blogging at the Blog Squad's Build a Better Blog this week. Stop by and leave a comment if you'd like.

You can read the press release here.

BTW, I'm available for Guest Blogging, audio/email/in person/skype/smoke signal/etc. interviews, and more. Promoting the book, perhaps surprisingly, is my job, not my publishers!
