I buy yet another Domain

My first (and main) domain is demop.com.

I later got TheTedRap.com, which simply redirects to this blog. Traffic to The Ted Rap increased immediately, so apparently some people were already typing in TheTedRap.com when looking for The Ted Rap - makes sense, huh?

Then came BloggingforBusinessBook.com, where I actually blog more often these days. It's on Blogging and other new Internet things and their relationship to business, and can be considered a "book blog" - it was started to promote my Blogging for Business book and soon my next book whose name is too damn long to type!

I also snagged BusinessBloggingBook.com around the same time, but decided to use BloggingforBusinessBook.com instead so it just redirects there.

Then came The Santa Claus Blog - SantaBlog.org.
Yes, I blogged as Santa and will again come Christmas. It got the my children all excited about the 'puter and what Santa had to say all of December up to the 25th. Also I made a few bucks from ads and gave them to charity.

So whadidibuy? TedDemop.com. Just in case I want it later. It may end up being my speaking site, and Demop.com my consulting and training site, or ?

I almost bought Demopoulos.com months back, but thought "too hard to spell, besides I can always get it later." Guess what? Someone else got it - a travel site for Greeks booking travel to Greece.

Now I have friends with literally hundreds of sites, so I'm actually very reasonable. and domain names are cheap! teddemop.com is about $65 for 5 years.

How to get an article published

An informative and amusing article from my agent Wendy Keller.

In the early days of my journalism career, I was co-publisher of a small magazine in Arizona. In my early 20s, back when I still knew everything, I was shocked at the swill people would send us in hopes of getting our valuable print space. (That is, the space for words in between pages of ads). To comfort these hopeful misinformed souls, I sent them a curt form letter telling them that our magazine focused on issues of importance to young people living in the state of Arizona, and that their proposed content on AARP vacations or the best pancake houses in Utah did not match our editorial vision.

Tips for delivering bad news

No way to be in business and not have to occasionally deliver bad news.

I've seen otherwise rational folks become, well, illogical and even violent a few times.
Reg Adkins has a great post called 6 Ways to be Good at Giving Bad News worth checking out.

Delivering bad news is very unpleasant, just like receiving it. Some people deliver bad news far more often as part of their chosen profession, and are simply good at it. The rest of us simply deal with it when necessary. We can learn a lot from people that do it regularly for the hopefully few times we need to do it.

Win Free Books - Subscribe or Submit a post

I've got a contest going on at Blogging For Business I'll mention briefly.
Prizes include copies of Blogging for Business and my next book on blogging and podcasting.

To enter, you can subscribe to BizBlog+ or submit a Web 2.0 business related post.

See a sample issue of BizBlog+ here - ok, it's the only issue so far :)

Chances are winning seem good so far - not many entries, although the July 4th holiday no doubt has a lot to do with that.

Guerrilla Marketing Radio

Guerrilla Marketing Radio
A minute or two of Jay Conrad Levinson, the Godfather of Guerrilla, speaking. I'm certainly a fan.

These are good, very good, short podcasts. Note he uses the word "radio" since EVERYONE understands it.

One thing Jay, your audio sucks! It sounds compressed, clipped, maybe over-processed. Perhaps this is on purpose, to create a Guerrilla effect?

You can hear them all in 10-15 minutes - well worth the investment.

Creating and Selling Information Products on Blogging

Michele Corey has an interesting post on Knee Deep about creating and selling info products, products based on knowledge like e-books and educational/informative audio CDs.

Michele and I are in the same boat! Way behind in our plans . . .

As I commented on her blog, I'm good at jumping on planes and making money. I consult, I speak, I teach, and I stay in many hotels. Now with 3 kids, it's time to figure out the "making money AND sleeping in my own bed" thing. I've tried "not making money and sleeping in my own bed" - success! But I need to make money sometimes :)

I was going to have info products for sale on my website 6 months ago, but my first info product turned into "Blogging for Business" - a real published book from a real publisher. Very cool, but real books don't pay enough to support large families. Then my publisher asked for book #2 (and Michele is in it).

Still, another "postponement" in developing some valuable info products and selling them on the Web.

So, what am I developing? Products on business blogging. Things I figured out the hard way: How to build your business by blogging. Efficiently, profitably, and without any silly myths, superstitions, or pseudo-rules. What really works and what doesn't. Not just from my experience, but from the experience of a wide variety of people across many industries.

My first products should be out this summer. Remind me if you have too!
