Maine 2.0

I'll be speaking at Maine 2.0 in South Portland on December 6th. I know I have a lot of Maine area readers -- if you're at the conference please stop by and say hello.

Talk details below. Although maybe I'll pull a quick one and read lobster poetry instead :)

Security – Where we need to be in 10 years and how to get there.

Systems are becoming more complex, new targets keep appearing such as networked fax and copying machines, and the whole world seems to be going wireless including laptops, HVAC systems and automobiles. These all have security implications, and today your average hacker is more likely to be a for-profit career criminal than a socially maladjusted teenager. Also security is still often an afterthought despite years of experience this approach doesn't work and a myriad of new government regulations. Security has a long way to go and expecting "technology" to solve it is simply a dream! Ted outlines the challenges we face and how we can overcome them.

Most Internet users have been targeted by criminal phishing emails, yet less than one third have any idea what phishing is, and only 3.5% have changed their habits due to the threat of phishing!

Risks include Identity Theft, Credit Card fraud, and more.
